Well, crap.
Most of you know that I have a really awesome digital camera that I love to pieces. The class that I’m taking is a traditional dark room photography class though so I borrowed a 35 mm camera from a friend and took it into the class. It’s not the right kind.
So now I have to go buy a camera for this class. ACK. I’m kinda short on money right now still because of the holidays and all and I’m waiting for some deposits from Niteflirt but I should be able to scrape it up by Wed. Why then? Well, I found a camera on Craig’s List that’s a 35 mm version of my digital SLR, which means that the lenses will be interchangeable. He’s got it up for $105 including a lense and camera bag and that’s an awesome deal.
So I’ll be picking that up on Wed. and starting my first assignment. I have to take 8 portraits of the same person and bracket the fstop and shutter speed so I’ll end up with 24 shots. Then we get to develop them ourselves! I’m actually pretty excited.
The teachers seemed nice enough. The main guy kept misusing air quotes and that’s a particular pet peeve of mine, but I guess I’ll just have to deal with it. The class doesn’t look particularly hard. There are 10 assignments or so and a mid term and final. It looks like participation and attendance count for a lot of the grade, which I won’t have a problem with.
The book that we submit with the assignments will serve as the portfolio for my application to the school of arts at the university, so they all have to be spot on. He said as the term goes on, we can re-do assignments if we aren’t happy with the outcomes. That’s good to know!
In other news, I’m about to head to the gym, but I should be around most of the day taking calls. Let’s fuck, boys!
